The legal note asked the couple to desist from making any false and defamatory allegations against the actor. It also warned them that if they failed to conform, then the actor will approach the competent court to protect his rights in this regard.
"My clients hereby call upon you both to desist from making false, untenable and defamatory allegations against them henceforth. Failing compliance my clients will be constrained to approach the competent Courts to protect their rights in this regard and to prevent you from carrying on and making such false, untenable and defamatory allegations against them and you both will also be prosecuted for causing defamation and consequent loss of their reputation," the notice read.
The Defamation Suit
The actor and his father have reportedly asked the couple to release a press statement denying the allegations and offering an apology to the actor. According to the note, if the couple failed to conform, then they will face a defamation suit of Rs 10 crore for maligning the reputation of the actor and his family.
Kathiresan, a 60-year-old, retired bus conductor and his wife Meenakshi had approached the Madras High Court in 2021 claiming that the actor was their son. The couple said that Dhanush, who was one of their three sons, was born at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. They said that the actor was refusing to pay for their maintenance.
The Legal Tangle
In one of their early applications, they claimed that they attempted to meet the actor several times. However, according to them, the actor was unwilling to meet. The couple later approached the court seeking monthly assistance of Rs 65,000 on their medical bills from the actor. Dhanush had later filed a petition in the Madras HC seeking a stay on the proceedings following which he was summoned by the court. The court quashed the case on April 22 after medical verification of the actor’s identity marks and his birth certificate.
