Unni Mukundan was born in Nellikaadu, Thrissur. During Unni’s childhood his family moved into Maninagar in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He had completed her primary education and did his schooling from a reputed school in Maninagar. His father is Mukundan and Mother Roji is a home maker, he has an elder sister. He wished to be a film director and he returned to his birth place to pursue his dream.
Unni had joined with director A.K. Lohithadas after his film Nivedyam. They had discussed about the new film Bheeshmar, but the fate is against to him. Lohithadas were passed away and he lost his hope in film direction. Later Unni returned to Gujarat and started to work in a private company. After one year he got an offer from Tamil industry, then he appeared in the screen test. After the Audition, director Subramaniam has selected him for presenting the lead role in Seedan. He wished to be a director but he became a lead actor.
Acting Career
Unni Mukundan made his debut in Tamil industry through the film Seedan, directed by Subramaniam Siva and which was released in 2011. The film was the remake of Malayalam hit film Nandanam. In which he shared the screen with Dhanush, Ananya and Vivek. He played the character named Mano Ramalingam. The film was very different from the usual action thriller in Tamil, it was a comedy romantic drama movie and it got many positive reviews from the audience. His performance was excellent and got many offers from the industry, he denied all that since he is very selective in choosing the character.
He debuted in Malayalam through the movie Bangkok Summer,directed by Pramod Pappan. The film was a romantic action thriller and completely shot in Bangkok. Richa Panai handled the role opposite to him. But his second film Bombay March 12 was released first in Theaters. In Bombay March 12, he shared the screen with Mammootty and Roma. In 2012 he had appeared in Thalsamayam Oru Penkutty, which was directed by T.K. Rajeev. The film features Nithya Menon and Shweta Menon in the lead roles and he presented the character named Suryan.
Mallu Singh made a perfect breakthrough in Unni’s acting career. The film was directed by Vyshakh and which was released in 2012. The film features Kunchakko Boban, Biju Menon, Samvrutha Sunil, Meera Nandan, Aparna Nair and Manoj K. Jayan were in the prominent roles. Ezham Suryan and I Love Me are other committed works in the same year. In 2013, he had committed the films such as Ithu Pathiramanal, Orissa and D Company.
In 2014, he had committed two Malayalam films – The Last Supper and Vikramadithyan. The Last Supper was directed by Vilnil while Vikramadithyan was by Lal Jose. In Vikramadithyan, Unni shared the screen with Dulquer Salmaan and Namitha Pramod, he transformed his body to a massive look for this film. He again shared the screen with Mammootty through the film Fireman, directed by Deepu Karunakaran and which was released in 2015. On the same year he had appeared in Samrajyam 2: Son of Alexander and KL 10 Patthu.
Style was his first commitment in 2016, which was directed by S. Binu. In which he shared the screen with he shared the screen with Tovino Thomas, Priyanka Kandwal and Balu Varghese. Kaattum Mazhayum and Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya are the other films he had appeared in the same year. He debuted to Telugu in 2016 through the movie Janatha Garage, which was directed by Koratala Siva. He shared the screen with Mohanlal and Jr. NTR.He shared the screen with Jayaram through the movie Achayans, which was directed by Kannan Thamarakulam and released in 2017. Sshivada handled the role opposite to Unni, the film features Anu Sithara, Prakash Raj, Amala Paul, Sanju Sivram and Adhil Ibrahim in lead roles. He is a true asset in Malayalam film industry.
